Valencia Hardwoods
Construction, sourcing, certifications, installation, and care for Valencia's engineered European Oak — answered. Something missing? Ask AFC directly.
Each of the three layers is oriented to counteract movement in the others, which is what gives the plank its dimensional stability — the floor acclimates to its environment and resists the expansion, contraction, and cupping that temperature and humidity swings cause in solid wood. Per the manufacturer, the construction is lab-balanced for stability, and it's what makes today's wide-plank formats possible.
The core layer is Hevea Brasiliensis — plantation-grown rubberwood with density and strength comparable to White Oak, sourced from managed plantations in Indonesia. Because it's a re-use plantation species, it saves virgin material while being one of the most stable cores available for engineered flooring.
A European Oak wear layer on top, the Hevea hardwood core in the middle, and a pine backing — 3-ply engineered at 9/16″ (14.2 mm) overall. Surfaces are finished in Bona® UV, High Performance UV, or Klumpp urethane depending on the collection.
Greater dimensional stability, wider plank formats, more installation options (glue, nail, staple, or float), and suitability above or below grade — plus, per the manufacturer, a guarantee over hydronic radiant heat that solid hardwood typically can't offer. You get the same real European Oak surface underfoot.
No. Valencia's oak is Western European White Oak, Euro-sawn and European-graded, sustainably harvested in France — and there is no production in China, per the manufacturer.
Valencia's engineered oak lines carry third-party-verified Type III EPDs published under the International EPD® System, in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804. AFC keeps the current declarations on file — request the environmental submittal package and we'll assemble it for your project.
Per the manufacturer, the line is produced with no-added-formaldehyde adhesives — marketed as 100% formaldehyde-free. (Like all real wood, the timber itself contains naturally occurring trace formaldehyde.) Indoor-air-quality documentation is available with your submittal package.
They answer different questions. An EPD is a third-party-verified report of a product's environmental impact across its life cycle — the document green-building rating systems ask for. FSC®/PEFC™ certify the timber supply chain behind the product, and FloorScore® certifies indoor-air-quality (VOC) performance. Ask AFC which documents apply to the specific collection you're specifying and we'll confirm against the manufacturer's current certificates.

Per the manufacturer: produced in Indonesia, from French-harvested European Oak and plantation Hevea — with no production in China.
Yes — per the manufacturer it is guaranteed over hydronic heat when installed following the installation guidelines, and it can be installed above or below grade.
Valencia's colors come from reactive stains that penetrate the wear layer rather than sitting on top — character deepens with wear instead of wearing off, but sanding changes the color, so refinishing is generally not recommended. Spot repair and plank replacement are the preferred approaches; talk to us before planning a refinish.
Glue-down, nail, staple, or float. Recommended adhesives and full instructions are in the installation guide — ask AFC for the current document for your collection, along with matching stairnose, squarenose, reducer, and T-mold trim.
